Library cards are free if you live, work, attend school or pay property taxes in Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, or Edgefield County.
- An ABBE card can be used at all member libraries.
- Cardholders are responsible for items checked out on their cards.
- Cards need to be renewed every four years.
How to Apply
To receive a card individuals 14 years of age or older need to fill out an application, bring it to one of our libraries and show us in person verification of name and address.
When you register with valid identification, an ABBE library card is issued immediately.
Juvenile Library Cards
To obtain a library card, a child must be present in the library facility. For children 13 and under, a parent or legal guardian must meet the eligibility requirements, complete the application, and accept responsiblity for materials borrowed by the child by signing the library card. If a parent or legal guardian is an ABBE cardholder, his or her library card must be in good standing in order to sign for a child's card.
An annual fee of $20.00 is charged to non-residents for an ABBE library card.
Organizational cards are issued to certain businesses such as daycare centers, nursing homes, and recreation departments. These cards are not intended to be used by teachers to check out materials for classroom use.
Applicants must complete an ABBE Organizational Patron Registration Card and return it to Outreach Services.The applicant will be notified when the application is approved and the card is issued.
Lost and Damaged Cards
If a your library card is lost or stolen notify the library immediately to prevent its unauthorized use. There is a $2.00 charge to replace a library card.(Valid ID required.)
