ACPL 2014 Peeps Diorama Contest and Peep-le's Choice Awards
Put your imaginative skills to use by creating a shoebox-sized diorama based on a favorite book or literary theme! Library patrons will vote on their favorites and prizes will be awarded in four categories: Child, Teen, Adult, and Group.
To enter the contest, be sure to read the full details, print and complete the Peeps Diorama Contest Rules and Entry Form and submit your diorama at the Aiken County Public Library Reference Desk from March 31 to April 5.
FOSCL OUTSTANDING ELECTED OFFICIAL
On March 20, Dick Dewar received the 2014 Outstanding Elected Official Award presented by the Friends of South Carolina Libraries (FOSCL) at their annual meeting held at the Richland Library in Columbia. John Bradley, FOSCL president, made the presentation to Dewar with remarks on Dewar's contributions to the Friends of the Aiken County Public Library, an organization Dewar led from 2005 to 2009.
"During his tenure as president, Dick worked with Friends' officers and library staff to increase the membership, fundraising and profile of the organization within Aiken, " Said Mary Jo Dawson, Director of the ABBE Regional Library System.
The Friends of the Aiken County Public Library nominated Dewar for the state award after recognizimg him locally with their "Best Friend" award in October 2013. This award was established in 1991 to recognize individuals and agencies that have provided outstanding support to the Aiken County Public Library.

Sponsor Amazon Wish List The Friends of the Aiken County Public Library invite patrons to make a wish come true by purchasing a new book, CD, or DVD for the Aiken County Public Library through the Amazon.com’s Wish List program. Patrons can use the Wish List link from either the library or the Friends’ website to see the items on the library’s wish list. The Amazon Wish List consists of high-quality books and audio-visual materials selected by library staff. Due to the budget cuts in State funding, the library is not otherwise able to afford these titles.
When a patron buys the items on the library’s Amazon.com Wish List, they are mailed to the library’s processing center. As an added perk, patrons who purchase wish list items for the Aiken County Public Library may choose to be the first to check them out by entering a note in the "gift option" section.
All donations are tax deductible as the law allows. Donors are advised to keep their receipts from Amazon.com in order to take advantage of tax deductions.
